Spirituals

Spirituals were songs that slaves would use to communicate & send messages to each other. Sometimes these songs were used to give directions to other slaves for an escape route. The Most known escape route was the Underground Railroad. The person famous for operating theses Railroads and freeing slaves from the Slave states was Harriet Tubman. Tubman was an American Political activist and made approximately 13 missions to go back to the enslaved states and rescue up to 70 slaves. Most of them family and friends, she used the network of safe houses and antislavery activists known as the Underground Railroads. The slaves would use spirituals such as an iconic spiritual named Wade in the Water. The message from the verse and obviously its name Wade in the Water was a message for the slaves so if they ever wanted to escape, escape through Wading in Water as it was hard for trackers to find run away slaves as the scent of the slaves would rinse right off them. These events still effect today's society such as the BLM movement where people remember times where black people always lived in fear and wanted to change the way the live. Equality and Racism are quite big in today's society still and people will continue to fight for their rights.

  1. Hello Miah, I like how you put the details and how much you explained about the situations they experience. It would be nice if you put headings and put the link of your map so it would be much more better to understand your work more. I really like your work but you need to fix a little bit in your work, over all I like it and keep up the good work!
